Location
South Africa’s malaria free Madikwe Private Game Reserve is one of Journeysmiths’ most popular destinations for family safaris. And when you stay at Morokuru River House - a private residence set on the bank of the Marico River - it gets even better still!
There are three double rooms, each with an en suite bathroom, which makes it ideal for a family or small group of friends. The property is child friendly, and the staff will even provide babysitting services if you fancy a night spent alone.
Great attention has been paid to make sure that Morokuru River House is comfortable for guests of all ages. In the main bedrooms, the beds are super king size, though there’s also a family room with four bunk beds for the kids. There’s both heating and AC, so you can adjust the air temperature as you see fit, and you can shower in privacy out on the deck or inside the immaculate bathrooms.

In between game drives and walks, you can swim in the pool, relax in the study, or watch DVDs and play on the Playstation. The house staff really have thought of everything.
The design of Morokuru River House is a fusion of African and European styles, where the indoor and outdoor spaces flow into one another. You might have a sundowner drink on the tree shaded private deck, dine al fresco, and then, once darkness falls and the air temperature cools, retreat inside for a nightcap by the fire.

Conservation
In the spirit of ‘Operation Phoenix’ – the original wildlife reintroduction and monitoring project in Madikwe Game Reserve from 1992 to 1999 – the owners of Morukuru launched the Morukuru Goodwill Foundation. Besides community support, this initiative has supported Parks Board projects such as wildlife collaring, darting, monitoring and relocation initiatives for over a decade, securing a sustainable future for the reserve.
Community
Morokuru are proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travellers to make a lasting impact in the community of the travel destination. Saving just a few kilos of space in suitcases and taking supplies for the projects supported by the initiative, guests can make a priceless impact in the lives of local children and families.
