The highlight of any visit to Uganda is to take a gorilla safari, either in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or the Mgahinga Volcanoes; both of which are in the south western corner of the country. This involves walking up to four hours through tropical rainforest for an unforgettable encounter with these huge primates. The forest also has many other primates and phenomenal numbers of birds.
Nearby is Queen Elizabeth National Park with its beautiful areas of forest, open savannah and small lakes. Here you find herds of elephant, giraffe, many types of antelope and hundreds of species of birds. Uganda is one of Africa's most exciting bird watching locations with approximately 1000 species, including some that are extremely rare.
Further north are the Murchisson Falls, on the River Nile, and you can take a boat ride approaching the foot of the waterfall to be covered by spray and surrounded by the awesome thundering of the Falls. This National Park, too, has lion, zebra, giraffe, antelope and a host of smaller creatures such as warthog and baboon.
